alright might as well do fandom promo while you're here. the something dark and holy trilogy, by emily a. duncan, is composed of three books - wicked saints, ruthless gods, and blessed monsters -, and if i had to do their comps i'd say grisha trilogy meets skyrim. the series in set in fantasy!russia and fantasy!poland, two countries at war because of religious differences - fantasy!russia has a pantheon of gods and clerics, figures that are able to communicate and wield the gods' powers, while fantasy!poland has said "fuck this shit" and invented magic of their own, which upset the gods and caused war for the past few centuries. our protagonist is nadezhda "nadya" lapteva, the last of the clerics, able to commune with the entire pantheon, and who leads a mostly normal life in the monastery where she was abandoned at - until the prince of fantasy!poland comes knocking to kill her. nadya flees, and ends up meeting a mysterious soldier from fantasy!poland, alongside his two traveling companions.

one of my very first ot3s!i love how they just work together. how they all visibly care and worry for one another with absolutely no clear preference. theyre just all tender and soft and In Love that it makes hard, even in book, to just root for One Pairing. the tragedy aspect of it - that will and jem will eventually die while tessa has to be alone, enjoying the little time she has with them - is also delicious, and i think it definitely lends itself well to reincarnation fic, if it's direction you want to take.

Insane Beast Of Dead Planet following its little/older sister (nona can be both. as a treat. considering, yknow. that harrow is a mini ressurection beast, but also stuck w alecto inside her at the moment) to take care and watch over her. yeah sure some necromancers r going insane because of it and it's threatening as hell to have Weird Eye Thing floating above the planet. but varun is worried.

harrow's first foray with someone who isnt A) ancient or B) in an enemyship with her is to immediately fall in love and i'd LOVE to see her spending hours and hours with alecto. or maybe some mithraeum hallucination weirdness. go wild. this is how meat loves meat, after all <3

it's so interesting to see enemies who, effectively speaking, hold the same point of view (halfbloods should be better treated by their parents), but also decide to go on wildly different directions about it (one a lot more bloody than the other). i think it'd be interesting if they were lovers that were forced to become enemies (feel free to age percy up. or not. underage isn't a dnw. your call), or lovers who ARE enemies but never stopped being lovers. have fun!

this is such a peak early 00s ship. they cut together? in a chapel? christian was more than a little obviously an emo? lissa was playing the role of white girl with depression who cuts and would be thee queen bee of myspace? it's so rife with tropes from that era, and i'd eat up anything that leaned into the edginess of it all, or just post-canon fluff. it's all so fun to me.
