The traveler shares the news of Zhongli's passing. Xiao stares at golden eyes, a hint of sadness in it.

He speaks, but the words are automatic; his brain is keeping him doing the motions, but they have no meaning. He goes away in a blink of an eye - ostensibly to Liyue, try to find more information about it as he had told the traveler he would do, but really, it's actually to the little room he keeps in the Wangshu Inn. It's not much - a corner of a storage room where the dust is inches thick, and when it flies, the little specks remind him of snow. It's not proper for an adeptus to be so intrinsically linked with the human world, but this room isn't his, and the items he gets are offerings, so he supposes it is fine.

There's rain outside, falling torrentially. Xiao can pretend it isn't his fault, tears falling from his eyes for a few minutes, before he cleans them, and goes to the place he left so long ago.

Rex Lapis was - he was, he was… How to describe him? Xiao ruminated the thoughts, barely listening to what his fellow adepti were saying. Something something taking control of Liyue. Something. He wasn't fully listening. No, part of him was there, but most of Xiao was in a small room, darkened and cold, alone, the thick smell of Silk Flowers coating the smell of decay.

Maybe he had visited it. Maybe not. The nature of an adeptus was fluid, like water: they became and were what it was needed for them to be, and his conscience did not need to be fully there, with other adepti. No, he could be curled by the face of the dragon Rex Lapis had decided to be his last form, quietly bathed in darkness, breathing in and breathing out until the rot reached his lungs.

It wasn't fair. He was greater than life, grandiose and untouchable to Xiao, who always felt like a child near him. No, scratch that. He was a child, one that felt scared and lonely without guidance. Ridiculous, to think he still had feelings, but he wasn't up to discussing it. His… His something had died and Xiao had been too busy being haughty to notice the disease. It had to be a disease, what else…

"Xiao, what's your thoughts on it?" The Moon Carver asked, and he blinked, boredly. Oh, yes. He was alive, still.

The salty breeze of Liyue hit his face, and he looked over the sea, watching boats drift by peacefully. He was waiting on someone.

He heard steps, and turned to face the visitors.

"Xiao!" The traveler said, smiling ear to ear. Two people followed the traveler, together with the irritating white floating thing, and Xiao's eyes lazily passed by them, focusing on the tallest of the four. "Again, thank you so much for joining my team. These are Childe and Zhongli, they'll be going with us."

Childe greeted him with a lazy smile that went ignored. Zhongli seemed stoic, almost nervous. The traveler still went on and on as the traveling plan was explained, but he wasn't listening, trying to identify Zhongli's face.

Wait a minute. Wait a -

Xiao took out his polearm, and Rex Lapis sighed, putting a hand to his face as Childe bursted out laughing. The traveler panicked, holding Xiao by his clothes, which felt feeble and foolish.

"There's an excellent explanation for this, Xiao. There's no need for violence…" The traveler said, and Xiao growled. The traveler let go of Xiao's clothes, which was a great idea.

"I deserve this, let him have a go." Zhongli replied, as if it wasn't about him.

"Oh, I'm going to tear you a new asshole and you're going to enjoy it, you fucking jackass." Xiao said gleefully, and all Zhongli did was look mildly regretful. Mildly. Xiao was going to make it look so, so much worse.
