An Abyss Mage was some sort of half-hivemind being: they all knew what to do, but also had enough free will to notice that their prince seemed kind of down, lately.
One of them, after several in-mind discussions, approached the boy, whose golden eyes looked into the unknown with such profound sadness it almost made the Abyss Mage experience an emotion by itself.
"My prince, what bothers you so?" It asked in its croaked voice, and the prince - too young to have known such melancholy - sighed.
"I worry about my sister." He started slowly, and it nodded. "We have always traveled together, and I fear she is lonely without me, or, worse, afraid. What if she can't defend herself, what if she is lost?"
The Abyss Mage nodded. It always was a sad day when an Abyss Mage had its connection severed with the hivemind; he figured the prince had the same problem.
"We can keep an eye out for her, if it would please you, my prince." That took a smile out of him, and he excitedly described his sister, telling the Abyss Mage about what a sweet, kind and compassionate creature she was.
If what he spoke was true, the Abyss Mage supposed that the right choice had been made: such a girl couldn't possibly lead them.
The prince had sent them off into Liyue to make the Hilichurls work together, and they were all very aware of what his sister looked like. As such, it was with some degree of surprise it saw her speeding by, running amok like some wild child in the middle of the plains. The creature was surprised, but approached her nonetheless, speaking loudly to call to her attention.
It raised a hand, and the prince's sister rose her sword, bringing it down; the Mage barely had any time to erect the barrier before she attacked again.
Her eyes were the same shade of gold as the prince, the Abyss Mage realized with horror as it defended itself against her frenzied attacks, but whilst the prince's were filled with melancholy and a small tinge of power hunger, hers were filled with the madness only a fighter could have, as if she had seen war and survived all unscathed.
The barrier broke, and the Abyss Mage started screaming when the sword started to hit him directly.
The hivemind reported many similar cases of meetings with the prince's sister. All of them, in their limited individuality, decided that perhaps the prince was better not knowing that his sister could defend herself perhaps a little too well.
